Why Pet42 exists

It all began with James.

Founded by Andrea Blauhut and Nico Schmitz, after experiencing how difficult it can be to make an independent, well-informed choice of food.

    The starting point

    The first recommendation was not suitable.

    James was a rescue dog. Andrea wanted to do everything right from the start and sought advice from a specialist shop. But the recommended food did not suit James.
  2. 2

    The symptoms

    James had diarrhoea, vomiting and skin problems.

    His symptoms kept coming back during this period. For Andrea, this made the search for food even more difficult and confusing.
  3. 3

    The missing information

    The interests behind recommendations were unclear.

    Online and in specialist shops, it was often unclear how recommendations were funded or which products had actually been compared.

    The solution

    Months of research brought clarity.

    Andrea read studies, spoke to experts and explored dog nutrition in depth. This helped her find food that better suited James’ needs.

Andrea and Nico wanted advice that does not earn money from selling food. James’ story led to Pet42.
